After panic broke out over a potential flaw within the iPhone 4.0, an Apple press conference was announced. A potential iPhone recall was on many minds, but there could be no iPhone recall. Instead, iPhone 4.0 owners can get a free case for their phone to counteract the antenna problems. Apple CEO Steve Jobs addressed the antenna also as some other issues at the Apple press conference.
It’s called Antennagate
You can get a transcript on the Wall Street Journal site. Steve Jobs started by saying there is no Antennagate, and the problem is not unique to the iPhone 4.0. There was analysis of other phones with the exact same problem. Jobs did confess that the iPhone 4.0 dropped more calls than the iPhone 3GS, but less than one more per 100 calls.
What’s Apple doing over it?
You will find bumpers you are able to purchase, but not enough of them. You are able to get a free case from Apple if you bought an iPhone 4.0. The offer could be good until Sept 30, and anybody who bought bumpers can get a refund for the bumpers and a free case. However, those who purchased a case from a 3rd party for iPhone 4.0 are not eligible. If over the next 30 days, any person wants to return their iPhone 4.0 can get a refund for the phone.
What got Antennagate on the radar
What Antennagate is about is a common failing of smartphones was found in the iPhone 4.0. It drops an almost negligent amount of calls more than the iPhone 3GS. Essentially, what happened was that a small amount of individuals (just more than half of one percent really complained to Apple about the phone) noticed this flaw. The media, tapping into a reserve of Schadenfreude, exploited it.
Apple is working on fixing it and spent $ 100 million designing the antenna to begin with. AT and T reported to Apple that less than 2 percent of iPhone 4.0 buyers returned their phone, but 6 percent of iPhone 3GS buyers did.
